Knights of Columbus Council #5811 Family of the Month Program Update Family of the Month Program from Brother Mike Mullane, Family Director “You don't choose your family. They are God's gift to you, as you are to them.” - Desmond Tutu. And God has blessed the Liebich family with many gifts. This year, Roger and Rosemary celebrated their 40 year wedding anniversary, and throughout those years, they have had the opportunity to enjoy God’s gifts. After raising three great sons- Jim (38), Brian (36) and Bill (34)- and caring for Roger’s parents, Roger and Rosemary currently live with, and care for, Roger’s sister and Rosemary’s mother. Roger joined the Knights in the early 1990’s. His Father was a Knight and, “I wanted him to get involved again,” says Roger, who then joined right in and became an active member and volunteer. A past Grand Knight and current Treasurer, Roger recruited many of the current members of our Council and established and/or carried on many of our Council’s traditions, paving the way for the many of the events that our current Council members participate in and enjoy. Roger’s Stewardship over the years has given many of the current younger Knights an opportunity to get involved in, and grow, our council. Asked what his favorite thing about the Knights has been over the years, “I really enjoy the cooking,” said Roger, who has prepared many pancake breakfasts and spaghetti feeds at Christ the King and has standing orders for his spaghetti sauce. In addition to his work with the Knights, Roger is an active volunteer at his wife’s church, Morello Avenue Baptist Church, volunteers in the kitchen over there as well. Born in Cheyenne, Wyoming, Roger moved to the Bay Area at the age of 4. A past Auditor for the State of California for 33 years, moved around California from San Mateo to San Jose and Sacramento, settling in Martinez 29 years ago and sending his sons through De La Salle High School and then on to Sonoma State and Cal Poly. Roger retired from his Auditor post in 2004, but stays active. In addition to doing, “handyman work… odd jobs” to keep himself busy, Roger and Rosemary keep on the go and travel the globe. They recently returned from a trip to China to celebrate their anniversary, traveling with Brother Knight Tom Chin and his wife. The Liebich’s have also enjoyed other parts of the world on cruises. Australia, New Zealand, and the Panama Canal are all places they have visited. While the kids were growing up, they enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and saw the country while traveling by train or enjoying camping trips. These days, the camping gear is stays put as Roger and Rosemary travel to see their sons in Santa Rosa (Jim), Sacramento (Brian) and San Antonio, TX (Bill, who has a family of his own and has given Roger and Rosemary 4 grandchildren- Zeke, Bethany, Abigail and Rebekah). Over the years, they have covered some ground, traveling to all but 5 states in the US. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
