Family of the Month Program from Brother Mike Mullane, Family Director

Brother Knights,

Last September, I had the privilege of becoming our Council's "Family Director".  The role is part of the KofC Service Program, which includes Church, Community, Council, Family and Youth.  In my role, I am responsible for providing our council with new and/or effective programs that work to strengthen family life. 

One of the Family Programs that has been a really nice part of our council is the "Family of the Month" program.  This program is an easy way for us to recognize our fellow Brothers by nominating one council family each month to the Supreme Council.  The Supreme Council will then randomly draw 100 nominations from across all entries.  Each of the 100 selected families will receive a Holy Family gift, along with a letter from Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson.

More importantly, the program gives us an opportunity to celebrate our council families who live traditional Christian family values, and who deserve recognition for doing so. 

Any Knight can nominate a family, and it doesn't take much effort.  Nominations should be submitted when recognition is deserved.  This is not a 'contest', nor is a 'winner' selected each month.  If multiple nominations are received, each will be recognized in the coming month(s).  Nominations should consider the following factors:

- Has the family made significant contributions to the Church, community and/or council?

- Does the family enjoy one another?

- Does the family share experiences?

- Does the family communicate openly and honestly?

- Does the family pray and attend Mass together?

- Does the family spend its time together interacting instead of in front of the television set?

Each month, I will complete the paperwork for our nomination and submit it on behalf of our council.  I will also contact the nominated family to let them know about the nomination and get some additional information that is needed so I can complete the nomination form and author a write up on the family for our monthly newsletter.

Knights and their families that we have recently recognized include:  Dave Leuders, Roberto Bracamontes, Jay Becker, Steve Zalewski, Burton Coloma, and Garst Peterson.
